A 24 x 14 Blue Bangor roofing slate, a slightly wider format than the 24 x 12 in the same range. Blue Bangor is the familiar blue-grey natural slate found on older houses, churches and farm buildings across Ireland, and the wider slate covers a little more roof per course.
It suits full re-slates and, just as often, repair work where a roofer needs to match what is already up there. Take a sample off the roof if you can, and compare size, thickness and colour before committing to a quantity. Allow extra for cuts at hips and valleys and the odd breakage in handling.
Properly holed, gauged and fixed with the right headlap for the pitch, natural slate is about as durable a roof covering as there is.
